“I don’t remember a time in my life when I wasn’t dancing. I’ve always loved to dance…I’ve always had to dance. The energy it gives me is what drives me, and it’s what inspires the dancers around me. I trained professionally of course, but more importantly I taught myself everything I could about dancing – the different rhythms, the forms, the histories, the traditions. I started creating choreographies from a very early age, like another child might paint a picture or write a poem. It was my way to express my love of dance, and to grow creatively within the medium. At a young age I also began to teach, and realized that as a teacher I gained an even deeper understanding of the dance, in turn becoming a better dancer myself.” From an early age, dance has been Erique's hobby, discipline, passion and ultimately his profession. His training too different forms, Ballet, Jazz Peruvian and International Folklore, Latin Rhythms, and Ballroom to mention a few. In his teens he started dancing professionally and teaching in Peru. Soon he was choreographing his own pieces, and it became clear to him that needed to reach beyond the borders of his own country, so he moved to The States. |
